Arguably the boldest company name in the City! As you guessed it, this shopping and sampling experience is ALL about Chocolate. Taking in the chocolate wall of fame I am told from a staffer, “we think of chocolate like fine wines”. I cannot help but smile in this shop, as I confess I have a bit of an addiction to chocolate myself; having a dark chocolate (85% min) in my fridge at all times, after every meal I am always thinking… chocolate.
1st lesson learned: You are not supposed to keep chocolate in the fridge. #2) Nearly all cocoa is grown within 20 degrees of the equator. Venezuela was one of the pioneers in growing quality beans while African countries bordering the equator supply the majority to the worlds population. Samples are always ready and don’t be afraid to ask – the Cardamom Crème Brulee is the most popular & the WestCoast Breakfast (Bacon) is close behind. I found the chocolate high heal shoe one of the most ‘out-of-the-box’ products and have the vision of drinking champagne from the chocolate shoe would be a great Yaletown celebration past time …. idea….Ladies!
Shopping can be an adventure and learning experience alone, but one of the great offerings is the Chocolate Tasting classes hosted by Xoxolat. Sats/Suns are the most popular at the moment starting at 12pm. $25 – “participants will learn the many chocolate facets of, from the bean to the bar, and taste samples of different beans, origins, manufacturers, and percentages of cocoa.” – xoxolat.com. Mini tastings can happen and any day of the week, ask for semi-private and private tastings.
Walk yourself into Yaletown’s wonderland of indulgence and let your inner child play!
